Durban’s year-round summer and the scenic beauty of its hills and valleys is the perfect picnic combination. Bring your own or book one through the Green Corridor info centre to be enjoyed at one of our sites along your route.

Mqeku Picnic Site (isiThumba)

The Valley of 1000 Hills is where you will find the isiThumba Adventure Centre and the Mqeku picnic site and natural rock slide. The point where the uMngeni and Mqeku rivers meet, is one of the prettiest spots in the province with some of the most pristine waterways too. Relax on cared-for green lawns under the shade of giant fig trees or slide down the river on the natural rock slide.

  • Book at GreenHub - the site can get very busy over weekends, so bookings are essential.

Inanda Dam

Inanda Dam is surrounded by the striking landscapes of gorges and cliff faces – the perfect spot to enjoy a family picnic. At the eNanda Adventure Park you will find well maintained picnic sites and braai facilities, with secure parking and clean ablution and shower facilities. After your picnic, be sure to hire a mountain bike; canoe or kayak and head out on a scenic adventure. The impressive uMzinyathi Waterfall and Rastafarian Caves add to the “best of the best” status of this area.

 KwaDabeka and Molweni

The Molweni area between KwaDabeka and the Inanda Dam wall is one of the most pristine stretches of the uMngeni river and an incredible birding and ecotourism experience. Use this area for a family picnic and if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the rare African Finfoot, a species highly sought after by birders to add to their “life lists”.

Mnini Dam

On Durban’s south coast just 15km from Amanzimtoti lies the tranquil Mnini Dam.

A hidden gem that will make you feel a thousand kilometres from the City this is the ideal picnic spot to enjoy the abundance of bird life and enjoy bass or tilapia fishing. A beer garden; mountain biking trails; accommodation; scenic walks, and a boat launch site will ensure your day is a full one.

  • Use Mnini Dam as your base.
