General Position Statement

To manage as well as to promote and facilitate the sites environmental education programmes and manage the operational, staff and financial matters of the Children’s Wilderness facility.

Essential Requirements

Qualification required: Qualified Occupational Therapist (Grade 1) or other suitable degree

Experience: Suitable experience in developing programmes across the lifespan is recommended

  • Knowledge and understanding of childhood development
  • Knowledge and understanding of lifespan milestones, adaptations and transitions
  • The ability to promote the Wilderness park and its programmes to the surrounding community and other departments
  • The ability to take initiative, problem-solve and adapt programmes where necessary
  • Culturally and community sensitive
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and training skills
  • Understanding of community practice principles and sustainability

Key Duties

  • Programme Development
    • Designing the initial programmes in conjunction with the UKZN Occupational Therapy department for different developmental levels.
  • Programme facilitation
    • Practical facilitation of running of programmes for different developmental levels
    • Education of site assistant/s
    • Evaluation and monitoring of programmes
    • Updating programme
    • Conduct training of new volunteers for the implementation of the programmes
    • Management of the Site and Centre facilities, programmes and staff; 
    • Preparing weekly or monthly reports;
    • Conduct stocktake monthly
    • Attending management meetings;
    • Arranging the marketing of site products and programmes; 
    • Performing administrative duties for the Site;
    • Ensuring the maintenance of the structures and facilities; 
    • Facilitate Environmental Education Programmes
    • Event organizing
    • Assist Head Office with Site related matters as needed.
    • Oversee the site assistant
    • Screening and referral of children to necessary services e.g. occupational therapy/speech therapy/audiology when the need is found
    • Community out reach
