 About Green Corridors

Green Corridors is a social-purpose and impact-focused organisation that aims to see communities thrive in balance with the habitats around them. Green Corridors co-creates open spaces in key local destinations that balance environmental ‘musts’ with the challenges and opportunities of the communities that live, work and thrive within them. From these spaces and our purpose-projects and tourism experiences have been activated adding the critical layer of socio-economic sustainability to our ecosystem. By employing a layered partnership structure, we look to ensure the sustained involvement of multiple stakeholders in any given area. This ensures a resilient structure that can survive the cyclical nature of commercial sponsorships and campaigns.

Join us for a few weeks or a few months volunteering and exploring KwaZulu-Natal. The experience, the people and the people will stay with you forever

Plunging into a new culture and experience a different way to see the world is one of the key learning aspects of our volunteer program. Living in a new and non-familiar environment and working in a Zulu community in South Africa is part of that unique and requires a special amount of courage. Green Corridors aims to engage young people from various countries in our community development programs around Durban. It is a highly beneficial learning experience for both the volunteers and the community. You as a volunteer will learn a lot about yourself and it gives you the chance to develop cross-cultural communication skills. Further, by sharing your skills and contributing to community based projects, locals get the chance to expand their knowledge and learn from you. Become a volunteer for Green Corridors for a life-changing experience!

Durban Green Corridors has offered a new meaning to voluntarism by putting us up in a homestay, staying in a homestay accommodation has given us the authentic experience of Zulu tradition. It's given us such a more meaningful experience of life in a rural community in South Africa, something we would not have had staying in a B&B or hotel!

Did you know urban green spaces counteract what is called the heat island effect of cities? This can help reduce the energy costs of cooling buildings. ⠀ ⠀ In addition urban greenery also minimises air, water, and noise pollution, and may offset greenhouse gas emissions through CO2 absorption.⠀ ⠀ By breaking the force of storm water, green spaces provide flood mitigation as well as providing ecological benefits, which include preservation of biodiversity and nature conservation.⠀ ⠀ These are just some of the benefits of urban greenery, making them the heroes of our cities in so many ways, when we recognise their value and necessity.⠀ ⠀ #greencorridors #thrivinginbalance #socialpurpose #impactfocused #nonprofit #durban #kzn #southafrica

"Active ageing is a term used to describe the maintenance of positive subjective well-being, good physical, social and mental health and continued involvement in one's family, peer group and community throughout the aging process."⠀ ⠀ Here, under the shade of this tree at the Inanda Wilderness Park, the elderly from the local old age home come to rest after their Zumba class and socialise. ⠀ ⠀ The project manager and occupational therapist at the park said her clients "feel supported, happy and young at heart again."⠀ ⠀ #greencorridors #thrivinginbalance #socialpurpose #impactfocused #nonprofit #durban #kzn #southafrica

What a wonderful place to sit, under the shade of a tree, after participating in the body movements programme implemented at the Inanda Wilderness Park. ⠀ ⠀ The 2 primary school & high school children improve their gross motor skills, socials skills, attention and engage in team building through this programme.⠀ ⠀ Trees and body movements go well together.⠀ ⠀ #greencorridors #thrivinginbalance #socialpurpose #impactfocused #nonprofit #durban #kzn #southafrica
