Our Journey

Green Corridors is a social-purpose and impact-focused organisation that aims to see communities thrive in balance with the habitats around them.

Green Corridors co-creates open spaces in key local destinations that balance environmental ‘musts’ with the challenges and opportunities of the communities that live, work and thrive within them. From these spaces and our purpose-projects and tourism experiences have been activated adding the critical layer of socio-economic sustainability to our ecosystem.

By employing a layered partnership structure, we look to ensure the sustained involvement of multiple stakeholders in any given area. This ensures a resilient structure that can survive the cyclical nature of commercial sponsorships and campaigns.

The Valley of 1000 Hills is named after the never-ending vista of hills that undulate from the distant Drakensberg Mountains to the Indian Ocean. It is here that you will find the isiThumba Adventure Centre, the base from where you can enjoy a wholistic experience of this beautiful place.

Local guides with unparalleled knowledge and story-telling skills will bring the culture, rituals and customs of the Zulu people to life as you tour our quintessential rural Zulu village. Visit a Shebeen (Local Bar) where you will be welcomed by a traditional Zulu meal cooked by one of the village women, and even spend a night in one of our homesteads waking to the sounds of the animals and glow of the sun rising over the rolling hills.

If you prefer a faster pace and are looking to test out the 4×4 skills of you and your vehicle, then enjoy a 3-hour trip along dirt roads, bush tracks and quarries under the experienced guidance of Monteseel Adventure.

For nature buffs, guided horseback rides or hikes will take through the spectacular Mamba Gorge will expose you to fascinating ecology ecosystems where you will see hidden valleys and impressive granite outcrops including the mythical iSithumba Rock, a key landmark in the area.

A perfect end to a day at isiThumba is a picnic at one of the prettiest sites in the province, the point the uMngeni and Mqeku rivers meet. Relax on the cared-for green lawns under the shade of giant fig trees or slide down the river on the natural rock slide. The site can get very busy over weekends, so bookings are essential.
