Green Corridors is a Durban-based nonprofit organization that aims to see communities thrive in balance with the habitats around them. 

Green Corridors is looking to employ one or more suitably qualified persons to provide services in generating, capturing, and managing data, using a variety of tools including citizen science tools and GIS mapping, relating to our operations and intervention impacts.

Green Corridors is looking to employ one or more suitably qualified persons to provide services in generating, capturing, and managing data, using a variety of tools including citizen science tools and GIS mapping, relating to our operations and intervention impacts.

Applications are invited from candidates offering skills in the following 3 technical functions:

  • Field worker training and supervision in the use of citizen science and other tools
  • Data management; and
  • GIS mapping.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Generate, collect, capture, store, organize, maintain and monitor the data created and collected by Green Corridors for our strategic and project management, fundraising and public communication needs
  • Training and supervising Green Corridors staff in the use of citizen science and other tools
  • Use of citizen science and GIS as tools for integrated open space management, especially in the central kwaMashu area
  • Providing data and GIS mapping as required for our reporting and communications needs
  • Liaising with and providing administrative support for processes involving relevant municipal and other stakeholders
  • Reporting to the Green Spaces Programme Manager

Candidates should have:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree/diploma in environmental management, town and regional planning, or other relevant field;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in executing relevant responsibilities;
  • Previous working experience in programs involved in data generation, collection, capture, management, and skills development, using a variety of tools including citizen science tools, and GIS mapping;
  • Good communication and reporting skills;
  • Driver’s License
  • Good local knowledge of Durban and in particular of kwaMashu will be a significant advantage
